Joan Golder Distinguished Senior Lecture Series showcased actor Mike Nussbaum

October 18, 2017

North Shore Senior Center extends a special "thank you" to the Golder family for gifting the community with the Joan Golder Distinguished Senior Lecture Series, which showcases the achievements and life history of noteworthy individuals over the age of 60. The Golder Lecture affords the featured speaker the opportunity to share his or her “observations on life.” Last night’s lecture turned the spotlight on Mike Nussbaum, who has been called the oldest professional actor in theater.

Mike has directed and acted in Chicago theaters for more than 50 years, portraying roles in David Mamet’s American Buffalo, Life in the Theatre, Glengarry Glen Ross and others. He appeared in the Peter Brook production of The Cherry Orchard, which opened in New York, and toured Russia and Japan. He has also appeared at Lincoln Center Theater, Hartford Stage, Manhattan Theatre Club, Atlantic Theater Company and more.

Mike has appeared on film in House of Games, Fatal Attraction, Field of Dreams and Men in Black. His work has been honored with an Emmy and a Drama Desk Award, and by the Joseph Jefferson Committee, DePaul University, the Illinois Legend Award, the University Club of Chicago, the Sarah Siddons Society, Next Theater’s 2014 Award and the Spirit of Shakespeare Award from Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Mike, who didn’t pursue acting full-time until he was in his 40s, still works with the hunger of a newbie.
